Cancun Airport, like other places in Mexico, is feeling the pinch from swine flu epidemic. The airport has been flooded by tourists trying to get out. A number of tourists have been found infected after getting back from Cancun and this has added to the tourist anxiety.

WestJet is telling tourists in Mexican destination such as Cancun that due they have until May 4th to hitch a ride back home. First WestJet will use regular flights, and for overlow rescue flights will leave empty from Canada, and come back with tourists. Although it is too early to guage the damage, it is obvious that Cancun will suffer greatly with the drastic reduction in tourism, related to swine flu.
Some countries such as Cuba and Argentina have stopped flights to Mexico. Some other countries such as Canada and US have posted travel advisories suggesting no non-essential flights.

According to the Spanish-language website noticaribe.com, the governor of the State of Quintana Roo (in which Cancun is located) said that there have been 22 suspect cases of suspected flu in the state, 15 having been discarded, and 7 are being analyzed.

There is another Cancun Swine Flu possible connection… Today is it reported that a private school in Newberry, SC is closed due to possible contamination of students coming back from a trip to Cancun, Mexico. It is reported that 13 students as well as supervisors coming back from this trip complained of flu-like symptoms.

This is a breaking story. A kid in Sacramento coming back from Cancun has experienced flu-like symptoms, and swabs are being sent to CDC for further testing. Seven of his classmates also came down with flu-like symptoms.

We are still not sure about this. There are NO confirmed reports of swine flu in Cancun. There are however two cases reported about young people who came back from Cancun (& Yucatan).
