Toronto Swine Flu ?
Toronto Swine Flu count now stands at eight. There have been three more swine flu cases confirmed throughout Ontario to add to the already five cases that had previously been confirmed to bring the grand total to seven confirmed cases of swine flu (as of Wednesday, April 29 2009). This is no joke folks. Most of us remember just hearing about this for the first time just days ago, and all of the sudden it is becoming a pandemic. I would go as far as to call this an epidemic in waiting but the WHO (World Health Organization) officially has the current pandemic rating at five.
Interestingly travel to Mexico, the epicenter of swine flu, is not yet banned. Thing is that if you or your friends are coming back up to Canada from Mexico and you so much as sniffle, you can expect to be pulled to the side examined and if need be quarantined.
The Canadian government is telling people to only go to the hospital if they have severe, swine flu like symptoms. You can imagine the backlog that this could generate. You used to wait eight hours for the doctor to just come and see you and now it could become even worse.
The symptoms of swine flu are the same as those of regular flues or colds, except much more severe. If you haven’t been travelling to Mexico or you haven’t come into contact with anybody who has there is no reason to get too concerned.
