This is indeed very sad for the city and the tourist industry, but nothing much can be done about it, as Mexico is more less under a travel embargo (actual, or by tourists). EU is considering banning travel to Mexico urged by France (to be decided this Thursday).

So regardless of flu cases being found in Cancun or not, a lot of folks have decided to postone their dream vacations. Also a large number of tour operators have canceled.

Should you go if you have reservations? Well, besides chance of catching flu, you also risk being stranded there if there is an overall ban on travel from Mexico from your country. Also traveling by air is getting iffy, with quarantines (one already in Maryland) when passengers with flu-like symptoms are found on the plane.
