Swine Flu in Cancun? CDC Confirms Swine Flu in NYC School

Yesterday I blogged about an alleged Cancun-related swine flu outbreak in a NY City school (I mistakenly called it a univeristy). Now just an hour ago, CDC (Center for Disease Control) stated that the swine flu NYC outbreak is now confirmed by them.

So what are the implications for Cancun. The article states:

“About 100 students complained of flu-like symptoms at the school. Some students went to Cancun on a spring break trip two weeks ago.”

This is indeed troublesome for all of us Cancun lovers. Many people on the boards ask questions about going or canceling trips. I would say due your own due dilligence. Also if you decide to go, see if you can get (prescription) Tamiflu or other swine flu drugs. This is just in case there is a run on local stock of drug, which can easily happen specially in less-developed countries/regions.

Note that there is currently no cure for this. You have to take the medication post-infection, and for best results, within two days of infection. The disease hits healthy and weak alike, so don’t count on that.

If this virus is spread so quickly by the kids returning to school from a trip to Cancun, then there must be thousands of people in Cancun with this virus right? What is the number of people that have it in Cancun? ZERO So just how do so many people get a virus from a place that has not had it? Where are the reporters flying down to find out more ? Hummm?…….Ü
